The CogniFit Cognitive Assessment Battery for Fibromyalgia (CAB-FB) is a professional tool, consisting of a battery of clinical tests and digital tasks, aimed at quickly and accurately detecting and assessing the presence of symptoms, traits, and dysfunctionalities in the cognitive processes affected by fibromyalgia.

This innovative online fibromyalgia test is a scientific tool that allows a complete cognitive screening, to find out the weaknesses and strengths, assess the risk index of fibromyalgia or fibrofog, and know which cognitive areas are affected by this alteration. This test is aimed at young adults 18+, adults, or seniors who suffer from fibromyalgia and may have a related cognitive impairment. Although fibromyalgia usually affects more women than men, this evaluation is useful for both. Any private or professional user can easily use this neuropsychological battery. .

This online fibro-fog test lasts about 30-40 minutes..

Fibromyalgia is a disease that affects many areas of a person's life. This disease is not limited to chronic pain or fatigue but also involves psychological and cognitive areas (what is known as "fibrofog").

This online innovative fibromyalgia test assesses the cognitive performance of people with chronic pain and fatigue. Discovering how the main cognitive skills (attention, processing speed, working memory, planning, etc.) can be altered by this disease can serve as a predictor of the quality of life of patients, as well as, help us to know the effectiveness of the interventions that are being carried out.

Clinical consultations and medical history, as well as questionnaires, assessment scales, and screening tests are very effective tools for detecting these cognitive problems. However, to know the depth of the impairment, it is necessary to carry out an exhaustive evaluation of the different cognitive functions through a clinical and neuropsychological assessment. Note that CogniFit does not directly offer a medical diagnosis of fibromyalgia. It is recommended to use this complete fibromyalgia or fibrofog test in addition to the professional diagnosis and not as a substitute for a clinical consultation.

Digital assessment protocol for fibromyalgia (CAB-FB)

Digital assessment protocol for fibromyalgia (CAB-FB)

This comprehensive cognitive screening for fibromyalgia and fibrofog consists of a questionnaire and a complete set of neuropsychological tests. Its duration is about 30-40 minutes.

Young adult, adults, or seniors who have symptoms, such as 18 pain points or "trigger points", or who may be at risk of fibromyalgia must complete a questionnaire that evaluates symptoms and clinical signs. Then perform a series of validated exercises and tasks that are presented as simple computer games.

Diagnostic Criteria Questionnaire

A series of easy-to-respond questions aimed at detecting the main signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia. This questionnaire is an evaluation and screening instrument for fibromyalgia.

Neuropsychological factors and cognitive profile

The CAB-FB continues with a battery of tasks aimed at assessing the main neuropsychological factors identified in the scientific literature for fibrofog. The results will be compared with the scales according to the age and sex of the user.

Complete results report

At the end of the fibromyalgia test, CogniFit generates a fully detailed results report, which shows the risk index for this disease (low- medium-high), warning signs and symptoms, cognitive profile, analysis of results, and recommendations. The results provide valuable information to identify support strategies.

Psychometric Results

Psychometric Results

CogniFit's Cognitive Fibromyalgia Test (CAB-FB), uses patented algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI), which makes it possible to analyze thousands of variables and notify users whether there is a risk of fibromyalgia with very satisfactory psychometric results.

The neuropsychological cognitive report has a high reliability, consistency, and stability. The test has been validated by repeated tests and measurement processes. Transversal research designs have been followed, like the Alpha Cronbach coefficient, reaching scores of about .9. The Test-Retest tests have received scores of almost 1, which shows the high reliability and precision that this battery offers.

When should you use this fibromyalgia test?

When should you use this fibromyalgia test?

With this evaluation battery it is possible to reliably detect the risk of presenting symptoms and cognitive deterioration related to Fibromyalgia or Fibrofog in young adults, adults or seniors.

If it is suspected that a person may be at risk for Fibromyalgia or Fibrofog, it is recommended that this evaluation be performed as soon as possible. For example, people with PTSD, or those who have been in a car accident, are more likely to have fibromyalgia.

Early detection failure or lack of necessary adapted tools make daily functioning very difficult and can lead to problems in areas such as the workplace, social or family interaction and emotions.

Fibromyalgia, fibrofog, pain and frequently associated chronic fatigue can cause widespread deterioration and difficulties in work and social functioning. Mainly you can differentiate between:

Most representative symptoms
Description
Joint and muscle pains
Psychological symptoms and state of mind
Associated symptoms

Joint and muscle pains

It is a diffuse, nonspecific pain that affects many different parts of the body (usually all 18 points of pain). Pain in Fibromyalgia has some peculiarities such as allodynia (pain from painless stimuli), hyperalgesia (pain greater than normal in relation to painful stimuli) and persistence (it is present for longer than normal).

Psychological symptoms and state of mind

Anxiety and depression are often linked to fibromyalgia and are thought to be caused by or to occur during the course of the illness.

Associated symptoms

Sleep and skin disorders are highly common in this disease and there are also many symptoms related to gastrointestinal disorders.

Description of the diagnostic criteria questionnaire

Description of the diagnostic criteria questionnaire

Fibromyalgia is characterized by a number of clinical signs and symptoms. These indicators may make us suspicious about the presence of this disorder. Therefore, the first step of this cognitive assessment of fibromyalgia (CAB-FB) consists of a questionnaire with screening questions that are adapted to the main diagnostic criteria and symptoms appropriate to each age group.

The questions presented here are similar to those that can be found in a diagnostic manual, clinical questionnaire or assessment scales but have been simplified so that they can be understood and answered by virtually anyone.

Diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia in young adults and seniors

It is made up of a series of simple questions that can be completed by the user, or by the professional in charge of the assessment. The questionnaire gathers questions about the following areas Muscle and joint pain (generally located in the 18 points of pain), psychological symptoms and mental state (the psychological state is important when related to the daily life ot the person affected by this disease) and associated symptoms (derived problems, such as sleep disorders, skin disorders, etc.).

Battery description to assess neuropsychological factors involved in fibromyalgia

Battery description to assess neuropsychological factors involved in fibromyalgia

The presence of alterations in some of the cognitive abilities may be an indicator of fibromyalgia. An overall profile of cognitive abilities can tell us how intense is the extent of cognitive impairment derived from this disease.

Cognitive problems associated with fibromyalgia can significantly alter the state of different abilities, such as attention, processing speed, working memory, planning, and reaction time thus reducing patients' quality of life. The detection of this deterioration is important so as to improve the functionality and independence of the users with the proper intervention.

These are the domains and cognitive skills assessed in the fibromyalgia test (CAB-FB):

Evaluation tasks

Evaluation tasks

This multi-dimensional scientific resource uses multiple evaluation tasks. Here you can see examples:

Speed Exploration Test REST-HECOOR

This exercise has been inspired by the classic test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) and the classic Hooper Visual Organisation Task (VOT) test by Hooper. The Speed Exploration Test REST-HECOOR is a professional instrument designed to explore processing speed and reaction time skills.

Identification Test COM-NAM

The COM-NAM Identification test is based on the classic NEPSY and TOMM tests. With this test, the level of channeling and classification of stimuli in memory is observed. In addition, it allows the ability to observe how the user detects and reacts as fast as possible.

Sequencing Test WOM-ASM

The Sequencing Test WOM-ASM was based on Conners' classic test (CPT) and the Wecshler Memory Scale (WMS) test of direct and indirect digits. Using these tests, we are able to observe the temporary storage capacity and, above all, the capacity to manipulate information to perform higher cognitive tasks, such as language comprehension or reasoning.

Processing Test REST-INH

The Processing Test REST-INH was inspired by the classic Variables of Attention (TOVA) test. The task helps to perceive, process, and respond to a stimulus. Depending on the processing speed, the response time will be affected to a greater or lesser extent. It will also allow the user to ignore irrelevant or unimportant stimuli.

The Brain and Fibromyalgia

The Brain and Fibromyalgia

Although no injury can be seen in the brain of people with fibromyalgia, more and more scientific studies are detecting a number of consistent findings: People with fibromyalgia tend to have a lower density of the gray substance in some areas of the brain. The common cognitive alterations in Fibromyalgia are related precisely to the areas of the brain with the lowest density:

1 Medial prefrontal cortex

The prefrontal cortex is responsible for executive functions, attention and working memory, which are often a problem for people with fibromyalgia. Several studies have detected a decrease in the density of the grey substance in this brain area in people with fibromyalgia.

2 Posterior cingulate cortex

Although the functions of this portion of the cingulate cortex are not very well defined, there is some consensus that it is involved in long-term memory storage. On the other hand, some studies point their participation in attentional regulation during work-intensive tasks. In Fibromyalgia, there may also be a reduction in the volume of this structure.

3 Hippocampus

The hippocampus is the memory brain structure by excellence, and is highly involved in various mnestic functions. Patients suffering from fibromyalgia may suffer alterations in this subcortical structure, causing memory problems as a consequence.
