Technical Specifications

The Equivalencies Test INH-REST was based on the classic Stroop test (Stroop, 1935). The test-taker is asked to press on the spacebar (go action) only if the color names on the screen are printed in the matching color and to refrain from pressing (no-go) if the color of the letters does not match the printed color name.

Start task

For more information about what variables are measured in this task, read this document.

  • Evaluated cognitive abilities:Inhibition, updating, visual perception, naming, processing speed and response time.
  • Time allowed:Between approximately 60 and 65 seconds.
  • Areas of application:Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, General Medicine and Research.
  • Format:Online Computerized Test (PCs, cell phones, tablets).
  • Objective:Press or not the space bar (on-screen button, on touch devices) as soon as it is identified that the color name corresponds or does not correspond, respectively, with the color in which it is written.
  • Instructions:The name of a color (e.g., "black") is displayed on the screen, and may be written in the corresponding color (in the example, "black") or in a different color (e.g., "blue"). If the name of the color and the color in which it is written match (the word "black" written in black), the user must press the space bar (or the button on the screen, in case of using a touch screen) and, in the opposite case (the word "black" written in blue), the user must not perform any action.
